Wayne M. Backus
Founded Backus & Associates in 1992, Wayne has been in the medical-liability insurance business, continuously, since 1972: General Agent with The Medical Protective Company, Director of Claims Management for a national Managing General Agency, licensed agent for Surplus Lines / Excess Insurance.

John D. Payne —Licenses: Property & Casualty
John has specialized in the medical-liability insurance business since 1995 as the Marketing Director in the professional liability division of Meadowbrook Insurance Group ( Southfield , MI ). In 2002, John left Meadowbrook and started his own insurance agency, J.D. Payne & Associates, Inc. specializing in medical-liability insurance. In 2004, John merged his agency with Backus & Associates to become the leading Michigan independent insurance agency specializing in medical-liability insurance.

Mark A. Tisdel —Licenses: Property & Casualty, Life & Health, Surplus Lines
A Backus & Associates partner since 2000, Mark had been a Backus solicitor—full- or part-time—since 1993. Mark worked with Wayne as a Medical Protective General Agent from 1979 through 1984; has nine years of District and Regional Management experience in the hospital supply and medical devices industries.

David J. Stuter —Licenses: Property & Casualty
A Backus Payne principal since 2006, David was a licensed financial planner with American Express Financial Advisors (Series 7 & 63, Variable Contracts, Life & Health) in 1994.  In 1998 David entered the mortgage banking industry with origination and management responsibilities.  David has formed Backus Payne Finance (premium financing) producing a new profit center and manages our premium trust accounts.

William F.Siewertsen
A Backus & Associates principal since 1997, William has been in the medical-liability insurance business, continuously, since 1988: Vice President of Risk Management, Operations and Marketing for national companies.  William also has six years of hospital-based risk management experience—Lansing General Hospital and St. Joseph Health System / Flint.  Licenses: Michigan Property & Casualty, Michigan Life & Health, Florida Non-Resident Property & Casualty

Diana J. Griffith
Diana joined Backus Payne in 2009, as Customer Service Representative/Office Manager. She has a BA in Business Administration, from Michigan State University and an MBA from Lawrence Technological University. Diana comes to us with fourteen years of experience in Construction Accounting and Financial Management from such companies as Kmart Corporation, Barton Malow Construction and ANR Pipeline Company.

Cindy Coleman
Cindy joined Backus Payne in 2010, as a Customer Service Representative. She has been in the medical-liability insurance business since 2005. Cindy also has five years of business owner and workers compensation insurance experience.  Cindy comes to us with twenty-six years of experience in the insurance field from such companies as AAA.
